Game Analysis : UsaRiva

UsaRiva

Game Description:
UsaRiva is a reversi game but it has modified graphics which is more attractive to others. It has 3 modes:
- Story Mode, there’re 5 stages inside. Play each stage to finish the story. You’ll have an AI opponent. Each stage makes the AI become stronger and cleverer.
- Free Mode, played with the AI. Player can choose the level of the AI, easy, medium, or hard. Player can also change the interface between modified graphics or simplpe graphic design. In modified graphics, the reversi piece will become characters and the board of the reversi become like a park.
- VS Mode, a 2 players game.

(3 modes) (Story Mode) (Set for Free Mode)

How to play:
If you ever played reversi or also known as othello, you can definitely know how to play this game. If you haven’t, place your piece (whether it is white or black that you choose) to replace the opponent piece with you piece. For example, your piece is white. The first time the game start, there’re 4 pieces in the board. Two white pieces and two black pieces. In UsaRiva, black goes first. When the turn is yours, UsaRiva will mark the cell where you can put your pieces at. Place your piece at the end of your opponent’s pieces. So, the black pieces that lies between your white pieces will turn into white pieces.

How to win:
When the game ends, the one that has more pieces in the board will win the game. There’s some logic to make the pieces you have is more than the other, try to get the cell at the corners. Basically if you place your pieces on the four corner cells, you will win the game because in corner cells, you can get many access to other cells and in corner cells, your pieces can’t be taken into black pieces.
If your pieces is less than the opponent’s pieces, you’ll lose.

Game aspects:
The graphics are attractively cute. It’s colorful with soft color. The characters (black and white bunny pieces) are adorable and it animates (blinking, jumping, etc). However, it’s not an addictive game. You can play other version of reversi and still got the same game. The difference is just on the graphics and cuteness. It maybe attractive to kids but when you play it again and again, it become a little bit boring. Modification of this game can be awarding system, like after playing the game for several times, player can get new challenging level or when finishing the story, there’re playable characters that unlocked. The story can be developed more and given a plot.
